Fatal Injury Awards

Bereavement Award

The husband, wife, civil partner or parents of a child under the age of 18 of the deceased are entitled to an award in the sum of £12,980.

Dependency Claim

The following people are entitled to make a dependency claim;

  • Husband, wife or civil partner
  • Cohabitee (must have lived with the deceased for at least 2 years before the death)
  • A child/step-child of the deceased
  • A parent or grandparent
  • Brother, sister, uncle, aunt

If you satisfy the requirements above, you can claim;

  • Loss of earnings/income
  • Loss of Pension
  • Loss of Benefits (private health care/company car etc)
  • Future care and assistance (DIY, gardening and household chores)

A Claim made on behalf of the Deceased’s estate

The beneficiaries of the estate are entitled to claim;

  • Compensation for any pain or suffering of the deceased
  • Funeral expenses
  • Any loss of earnings and other expenses the deceased incurred before death.
  • Care and assistance


The Grant of Probate or letters of administration will need to be provided.
